The search for Liminal Spaces -
Spaces for re-imagining my tomorrow
This page contains a collection of things and places that I consider liminal spaces. When I am in these spaces, I can step out of the rational world into a realm of imagination and self. They give me the courage to reconnect with myself and thus to re-imagine my future.

By recording them, I know where I can find these spaces whenever I need them. This living archive, including the photos, are collected based on my experience the past month. This is a living collection, which means that there will be more and more liminal spaces in the future.
Rotterdam
...
The more I get to know Rotterdam, the more I get inspired by it. Why do I see it as a liminal space?

It is a dynamic city that neither lives in the past nor the future, but instead, it has the spirit of ‘make it happen’, the spirit of learning by doing and experimenting.

It is edgy, raw, and authentic that no labels can be put on Rotterdam. It is diverse with all kinds of people and places.

Being in Rotterdam, I feel like I can be or become whoever I want.
Twilight

My favorite moment of the day. When the sun is setting, it is a liminal time and space between day and night. One of my favorite activities is to take a walk through the betwixt and between hours.

The mysterious light and the atmosphere can feel like lucid dreaming. In lucid dreams, anything is possible, and nothing has limits. This is when I feel most open to reviewing my past and present, and to reimagining my future. The fluidity of liminal time speaks to my mind and encourages my innate knowing to reveal itself, my authentic self.

Dancefloor

While many associate nightlives with escapism, I view it as a liminal space. Often when I enter the dancefloor, I feel free and wild. In this space, all the responsibilities and structures from the outside do not exist. My sole responsibility is to dance and to enjoy myself. In clubs,

I feel connected to others through music and movements while I could still be myself. In the dark space with only flashing lights, nobody cares nor judges who I am, I can be, act, and dress however I want. These experiences of freedom and limitlessness could be transformational. By experiencing the feeling of no boundary, I am equipped to re-imagine my tomorrow without boundaries.
Meditation

Meditation Cultivates my inner space. I especially like to meditate in nature.

While meditating, I watch my mind, thoughts, and feelings. I explore the liminal space between thoughts and breaths. I can forget who I am, see issues as objects floating in my head based on perceptions and feelings, instead of identity and social structure. This liminal space is where authenticity and peace with myself, where I can re-assimilate my mind, myself, my world.
